What is the Society for Unusual Books?
In eons past, the Society upheld the time-honored tradition of coveting strange, unknowable books by locking them in vast libraries full of unseen horrors and dread creatures stalking the limitless stacks in an unending pursuit of literary godhood.
Nowadays, The Society is a small, independent online bookstore specializing in weird fiction, fantasy, sci-fi, nonfiction, and other genres. We place particular focus on small press and independent titles. Our Bookseller also curates atmospheric and hyper-specific themed reading lists. We hope you find something on our shelves you never thought to look for...
Is there a brick-and-mortar location?
For now, the Society exists only in the protean, liminal space between the universe most of our initiates inhabit and the ever-expanding multiverse that exists just beyond, i.e. the internet.
Can I purchase a Society bookmark?
Because our Society bookmarks are limited edition, we only sell them individually if there's remaining stock at the end of the season. We include a bookmark with every order, and if you're hoping for a particular one you can let us know in your order note! We introduce new bookmarks for Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.
Where do you ship?
Almost anywhere in the world! And if your country doesn't come up at checkout - send us a note!
How much does shipping cost?
Shipping fees are calculated during the checkout process based on weight and destination. Need your order faster? Contact us for a shipping quote at hello@societyforunusualbooks.com or our Contact Us form.
If you're within our (free!) Local Delivery range, you'll see it as an option at checkout. Local Delivery orders will be delivered within 5 business days. Need it sooner? Let us know! Orders are processed Monday through Friday, typically within 1-3 business days.

Do I have to apply for membership?
Traditionally, membership included an excruciatingly long application process, a blood sacrifice, an arduous journey across time and space to kneel at the feet of our eldritch overlord, and an initiation ritual that included no less than three venomous reptiles. But due to budgetary constraints membership is now open to anyone who dares to seek it (just put your email in the box).
